Isaiah 40:31

Wait On The LORD

Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
Isaiah 40:31.

What does it mean to wait for the LORD? Waiting on the LORD is the essence of faith. When a person waits on the LORD, he or she is actually becoming wound up in the Spirit, tensed up in a positive tension of an expectancy that God will move in our favor. Even deeper, when we wait on the LORD, we become wound around what we hope for, the expectation of God doing what He said He will do.

Now faith is the substance [assurance] of things hoped for, the evidence [proof] of things not seen. –Hebrews 11:1

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. –Hebrews 11:6

When we wait on the LORD we are being prepared by God to receive what He has planned for us to receive from Him. Waiting on the LORD is having faith in God and knowing His desire to help us through life on earth.

Those who wait on the LORD will gain new strength. When a Believer gains new strength, the Believer actually reaches a new level, that is literally what it means in the original language and context, to pass through, move on, change to a new form, passing out of one stage and moving on to a deeper level.

They will mount up with wings like eagles. When a Believer mounts up, that is when he or she climbs, ascends to the mountaintop with God, from the valley deep below. The mountaintop is when we are in His sweet presence, abiding in the shadow of His safety, versus the valley deep below, where we are through our trials and tribulations.

They will run and not get tired. We who wait upon the LORD will run our race and not get completely exhausted from intense toil. This means God will give us the strength to keep moving forward, the strength to keep advancing further in our relationship with Him, the strength to not give up and abandon our mission from God.

They will walk and not become weary. This word “walk” means to intentionally pass through, move on, change to a new form, pass from one stage and move on to a new deeper reality with God. We will be able to walk out our Godly lifestyle and become Overcomers throughout our life and make it to Heaven to be with God for eternity if we wait upon the LORD while we are on earth.

If we wait on the LORD, we will not become weary, which means we will not end up annoyed, empty, hungry or bent out of shape. We will run our race and reach Jesus as the end result of our life if we wait upon the LORD. We will not say, “I don’t have anymore to give,” but instead we will be filled with the joy of the LORD and we will finish our race stronger than we began.
